Rainbow Film Festival set May 27 to 30

Today (May 19) is the deadline to buy discounted advance tickets to the 21st Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, set for May 27 through 30 at the Doris Duke Theatre, Honolulu Academy of Arts.
The options include:
• A VIP pass for $75, which includes admission to all films and galas.
• Buy one ticket ($20) to the opening night film, get one at half price ($10).
• Buy three Gala passes ($25 each), get one free, includes gala and closing nightg film.

Otherwise, the ticket prices will be:

• Film pass for $75, good for all films.
• VIP pass for $85, good for all films plus gala.
• Gala only pass for $25, includes reception and closing night film.
• Single ticket for $10 for most films, $20 for opening night film plus reception.
• Student and military discounts, $25 VIP pass, $9 single admission (excludes opening night film).
The festival opens at 7 p.m. May 27 with the screening of “Violet Tendencies,” which stars Mindy Cohn, who played Natalie on TV’s “The Facts of Life,” as Violet, a self-described “fag hag,” who searches for real (heterosexual) love. A reception, at 6 p.m., precedes the film; Whole Foods will provide light pupu.
“The People I Slept With,” a comedy about a promiscuous sex-hungry woman Angela, who finds out she has an unexpected pregnancy, will close the festival at 6:30 p.m. May 30. One of the actors, Wilson Cruz, playing the gay Gabriel, and the director, Quentin Lee, will be in attendance.
More than two dozen films from 15 countries, exploring all aspects of gay and lesbian life and the spectrum of the alternative lifestyle, will be shown in-between. The schedule, available at the website, features shorts, full-length films, and documentaries.
The festival is presented by the Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation.
